Masters Track & Field

At North Harbour Bays Athletics Club our Track & Field Masters athletes cover running, jumping and throwing at all levels of competition. Track & field season runs from October to March. 

Our group/s are very friendly, welcoming and social, and we warmly welcome new members to join us.  Masters athletes compete in 5 year age-divisions age for Male & Female 30 + Running events (60m to 10,000m; Long,Triple & High Jump; Shot, Hammer, Discus, Javelin, Weight. To complete in World Masters Athletics championships age starts at 35 M/W.

Numerous masters competition are held annually, including New Zealand masters National; North Island South Island Championships.

To take part in Athletics Auckland meetings the athlete needs to belong to a recognised Athletics club.

World Masters Athletics T&F Championships  22nd August to 3rd September 2026 Deagu South Korea

Nine NHB masters took part for the first time in a Major masters Championship. It was a bit of a wake-up-call taking on athletes from 82 countries with a total number of athletes taking part was 7,476. In the mens 35 age group sprints there were 11 heats and 7 in the 50 and 60 age groups. Every athlete excelled in their events making their way through heats - S/F and Finals.  Medals won by Bays athletes M65 James Thomas Bronze Discus and Shot Put. M80 David Anstiss Gold High Jump; Silver Triple Jump and Pole Vault; Bronze Long Jump. David set National records in the HJ/TJ and 80mH. Other records set: W55 Phillipa Green 200m AMA/NHB. W65 Jill Hayman 100m and 200m NHB/R.

 2025 Oceania Masters Championships - Brisbane 6th - 10th Sept 2025

Twelve NHB athletes made the trip to Brisbane from a wet & cold Auckland to be greeted with a sunny 25c degrees for the 5 days with outstanding results from the team, winning 20 Golds; 18 Silvers and 5 Bronze medals. 

Women: 55 Delwyn Smith 1 Gold 1 Bronze; W60 Jill Hayman 6 Silvers; W60 Karen Hulena 2 Silvers 2 Bronze; W75 Anne Deleiros 4 Silvers; W80 Chris Waring 3 Gold 3 Silvers.   Men: M45 Arno van der Westhuizen 2 Golds; M55 Grant Hodges 1 Bronze; M60 Mark Lett 1 Gold 2 Bronze; M65 James Thomas 6 Golds 1 Silver; M75 Tony Deleiros1 Gold 1 Silver 1 Bronze; M80 David Anstiss 7 Gold 2 Silvers. W 35 Cherie Mc Allister set two PB's in the 200m and 400m.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Records set: Five Oceania; 3 New Zealand; 9 Auckland Masters and 11 NHB's. Commiserations go out o David Blackford, Greg Boyd and Sue Gee who had to withdraw due to injury.
