Track and Field (Summer season)

The Junior Track and Field season runs from October to March and is for children of all abilities aged 5 – 14.

Whether your child is a budding Connor Bell, or just loves being part of a team that encourages and supports you to be your best – Bays Athletics is for everyone.

We have club nights every Tuesday and event-specific coaching on Wednesday. Throughout the season there are ribbon days at clubs throughout Auckland and Championship events for those interested in the competitive side of athletics.

Club night - Every Tuesday

These are held on Tuesdays and are open to every member. Junior 'Grades' are the same as ages, e.g. Grade 8 is 8 years as at 31st December 2023.

Before we start, children are put into their age group and taken around four track and field events.

5yrs to 6yrs       5.15pm start - meet at track

7yrs to 9yrs       5.15pm start

10yrs & up         5.45pm

Club Nights are never cancelled as we have an all-weather track. In bad weather, a modified programme of races will be offered.

Parent help and supervision at club night

Athletics is a volunteer-based sport, so without volunteers nothing would happen.

Our registration numbers are growing, this means we need more help in coordinating our many events and programmes to ensure they can continue and provide the best experience for your children.

We expect parents and caregivers to help out and it doesn't matter if you don't have athletics experience. We will help you along the way - and, it's actually a lot of fun!

At club nights, your child is your responsibility. You cannot drop and leave them unsupervised.

Uniforms and age patches

The Bays Uniform must be worn at all club nights and at any events where you are representing our club. During the season, 7 to 14 year olds must also wear an age age patch (stitched or pinned to the front of your singlet on the right hand side).

Uniforms can be purchased at club nights or email NHBjuniorathletics@gmail.com.

Shorts must be plain black.

Junior coaching

Every Wednesday night event-specific coaching is available from 5.30 - 6.30pm.

You can choose which event you want to focus on. Everyone aged 7-14 is welcome and encouraged to take advantage of this extra free coaching in starts, sprints, jumps and throws.

Athletes 11-14 years who are keen to progress towards senior athletics are invited to join the X-Squad.
