CLUB NIGHTS October to March
These are held on Tuesdays and are open to the whole Club. Junior “Grades” are the same as ages, e.g. Grade 8 is 8 years as at 31st December 2021.
We meet on the track for notices prior to the start time of each group
5yrs to 6yrs 5.15pm start - meet at track
7yrs to 9yrs 5.30pm start
10yrs & up 5.45pm
Club Nights are never cancelled as we have an all-weather track. A modified programme of races will be offered. It is your decision as to whether, or not, you bring your child along.
All families with Junior athletes are expected to help out and assist during Club night as Age Group Marshalls and to assist at field events in measuring, and marking etc. It is a great way for parents/caregivers to get involved and have some fun and ensures the sucess of our Club Nights.
Uniform, Colgate Patches and Numbers

Correct Club uniform must be worn with the age patch for 7 - 14 years on the right hand side and numbers are to be worn on the front.
Shorts are to be plain black.
The Junior Section covers ages (grades) 5 to 14 years inclusive.
The Junior Committee consists of interested parents and is always ready to welcome new members. No previous experience is necessary.

Junior Activities cover Summer Track & Field (October to March) and Distance Running continues all year.
Basic event coaching is available through the summer season either on Tuesday club night or Wednesday night.
Coaching is every Wednesday Night - 5.30 - 6.30pnm
Coaching starts at 5.30pm - 7.00pm 21st October.
Every event is covered for all 7yrs to 14years + and all are welcome to take advantage of this extra free coaching in starts, sprints, jumps and throws.
Enquiries as to the program for the Wednesday coaching can be made on Tuesday club night
Athletes 11 -14 years who are keen to progress towards senior athletics are invited to join the X-Squad.

Do you want to improve your fitness, increase your speed and perform better in Athletics or your other sports? We train every week year round, across both the Summer and the Winter seasons.
Junior Club Competition
8th, 15th and 22nd February 2022
Age Champion – 1st, 2nd, 3rd
The Age Champion is taken from the beginning of Competition Nights and an athlete must have competed in all of the events offered during the competition season.
Age Champion will be based on Personal Bests for.
7yr and 9yr olds 6 of their best events
10yrs plus 7 events
Personal Best can be taken into account on application from recognised competition (e.g. Colgates, Top 10, Trans Tasman, Interprovincials, Auckland Pentathlon, etc).
Trophies awarded to best Sprint, Distance, Jumps and Throws athletes.
Junior Club Awards
Awarded to the athlete with the best overall performance at North Island Colgate Games. This includes sportsmanship, attitude and performance.
Awarded to the most promising 13 year old athlete across all disciplines.
Derek Wood Memorial Trophy
Outstanding contribution by Junior member in representing the club with distinction.
Awarded to the best achiever for 5 or 6 year olds.
Competitions for Juniors in addition to Club Nights
On the Calendar you will notice that several meets are advertised as Open Days, for example "Papatoetoe Open Day" or "Bays Open Day". This means that there are events on the programme for 5 to 14 year olds (some events will advertise different grades). You may attend these meets and compete in whatever events you select. There is no pre-entry criteria for these meets, you simply arrive and take part on the day. Complete Club uniform (including age grade patch) must be worn at all times. This is a Centre requirement.
Auckland Junior Relay Championships
This event is a team event and athletes are selected based on their performance and availability.
North Island Colgate Games
This event for Grades 7-14 years Jan 8th -10th Friday - Sunday North Island Colgate Games Taranaki There is no entry standard requirement and is an excellent opportunity for Club members to compete against children from all over the North Island. This is the only competition of its type for these age groups. Entry deadlines will be advised at Club Nights or check the Club website www.baysathletics.co.nz
South Island Colgate Games
Grades 7-14 years Jan 15th-17th Friday - Sunday South Island Colgate Games Nelson. Entry deadlines will be advised at Club Nights or check the Club website www.baysathletics.co.nz
14 to 17 years North Island Interprovincial Champs
Pentathlon Champs (7–14 year olds)
This event has open entry and athletes compete in four events (7-9 years) and five events (10-14 years). The event is at Mt Smart and times are generally 9am for Grades 7, 8 and 9 and 12 noon for Grades 10-14 years.
These are individual entries, made through the Club Office. Deadlines will be advised at Club Nights.
Top 10 (7–14 year olds)
This event determines the best Junior Club in Auckland and all Club athletes should aspire to achieve selection or be a reserve to the team. This is a selected Teams Competition, with pairs of athletes undertaking multi events and aggregating their points. The Club names a training squad and selects a “pair” to compete in each age group.
12 & 13 years Interprovincial Champs
This is a team chosen by the Athletics Auckland Selectors. Results from Auckland Junior Open Days are used for Team Selection and the Championships will be over Easter in 2022
